CLT - DUB

Our original business class flight was cancelled so we not only downgraded but we were also spread out across the plane not sitting together in separate middle seats. My poor kids were scared and couldn’t see me on the flight and the crew wasn’t sensitive to the situation and what the airlines did to us. Very dissatisfied with United airlines.

It makes it more fun to fly with them. I would however fly Delta again. This practice happens way way way too much, and it seems on every airline, though AA is probably the worst. As with every airline the seats are not built for tall people. The flight was smooth, on time and without any issues.

The one downside to the experience was they had games on the entertainment console. The guy behind me poked at my head about half the flight. I hope they get rid of this feature. The plane was old and you are required to connect your own device to their Wi-Fi rather than have entertainment options in the back of the seat in front of you. The Wi-Fi went out during the flight and there was only one plug for the devices every two seats.

I like the team but I don't like the food you provided with money. I want free food and free water. Crew was fantastic got lovely food and plenty of water. Left on time and got to Seattle early. Luggage did not take long either.

This section gives an overview of the flight schedules and timetables of every airline with direct flights for this route. The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture.

Non-stop flights from CLT to DUB

Perhaps eye contact with the cabin crew, instead of abruptness and an impatience to serve. Short flight so not much to rate. Surprised I had to pay for a soda.

Top 5 airlines flying to Charlotte

February can be a great time to fly to Ireland from Charlotte with a flight ticket averaging about $1,099. Cheapflights users have found deals in the month of February for as cheap as $369. The most expensive prices can be found in the month of July. Once you have performed a search for Charlotte to Ireland flights, momondo helps you find the right one by offering useful filters to narrow down your flight selection. Flights can be filtered by multiple factors such as airline, airport and price; but also by other criteria like aircraft type and payment method.

However, main cabin with the extra cost one pays could be better. I don't see any difference with the rest of the seats in the regular category. The seats are too close to the ones in front. For short flights it is Ok, but for long ones there should be more space.

The whole process is poorly managed. Overall it was a miserable experience... I will never fly spirit for more than a 3 hour flight or overnight. Generally good but we were delayed almost two hours from the original time of purchase. The pilot claimed an internal issue then an external equipment issue that needed to be adddressed.

Nice to be on a flight that wasn't fully booked so there were only two of us in the three seat row. I suspect i caught flu on this flight as i could hear someone coughing a few rows back and ended up with flu a few days later. Also tiresome to have to watch movies on my device by holding up smartphone screen, would have liked to have in seat display. Allowed me to move to some empty seats and I was able to get some sleep.

The House on Mango Street Summary and Study Guide

summary on house on mango street

It is only when she meets Rachel and Lucy's aunts, who tell her fortune, that she realizes her experiences on Mango Street have shaped her identity and will remain with her even if she leaves. As the novel ends, Esperanza vows that after she leaves, she will return to help the people she has left behind. She is excited when boys on the street or at a dance look at her; however, two instances of sexual violence destroy Esperanza's illusions of true love and her first kiss. So too, her promiscuous friend Sally's behavior also contributes to Esperanza's cynicism and caution when dealing with the opposite sex. Nevertheless, Esperanza still dreams of sitting outside at night with her boyfriend, but she has set her standards higher than most of the women around her.

Domestic and sexual abuse

As she grows older, Esperanza has troubling glimpses of the adult world. When they are playing with the shoes, a vagrant approaches Rachel and asks herfor a kiss. Later, when Esperanza has her first job, an older man makes thesame request of her, claiming that it is his birthday. When she is about tokiss his cheek, he twists her face around and kisses her hard on the mouth.Esperanza also sees the pain and drudgery in her parents’ lives. When hergrandfather dies, her father breaks down in tears, and she thinks for the firsttime about what it would be like to lose him. The House on Mango Street is a coming-of-age novel by SandraCisneros that follows the life of Esperanza Cordero, a young Latina girl, asshe navigates her life in a low-income Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago. The House on Mango Street is a collection of vignettes by Sandra Cisneros that explores Esperanza’s perspectives on the residents of Mango Street, a predominately Latino neighborhood.

The House on Mango Street Study Tools

As the new girl on the block, Esperanza observes many of life's most joyous and harsh realities while meeting her Mango Street neighbors. Her first friend, Cathy, is a short-lived friendship because Cathy's father soon moves the family away because the neighborhood is getting bad, or in other words becoming more inhabited by lower-class Latinos like Esperanza's family. Two other young sisters, however, adopt Esperanza into their circle when she chips in money to help them buy a bicycle. Lucy and Rachel help Esperanza ponder the wonders of growing up by inventing rhymes about hips and parading around Mango Street in high-heeled shoes. They have published ananthology of their work, called Emergency Tacos because they gather at atwenty-four-hour taquería on Belmont Avenue. During the day, sheteaches at a school in Pilsen, on the South Side of Chicago.

Study Tools

All the time these events are going on, the woman in the photograph iswriting, experimenting with her stories and rearranging elements of real lifeto create complete and satisfying narratives. She borrows events and charactersand phrases but not emotions, since all the emotions in the stories are herown. One of her firstpublishers, Norma Alarcón, brings together an influential group of femaleLatin American writers and introduces her to the work of Sor Juana Inés de laCruz, Elena Poniatowska, and others.

She develops an interest in a boy called Sire, who stares at her whenevershe passes his house, and imagines what it would be like to hold him and kisshim. Esperanza continually notices that the women on Mango Street lead severelyrestricted lives while the men can do whatever they like. Her neighbor Earlbrings a series of women back to his apartment, while Mamacita, across thestreet, never leaves the house, and Rafaela, a beautiful young woman, is lockedup by her jealous husband. Esperanza and her family (Papa; Mama; her two brothers, Carlos and Kiki; andher sister Nenny) have moved around from rented house to rented house, untilthey were able to acquire their own home on Mango Street.

Sandra Cisneros

Esperanza was named after her great- grandmother, who was tricked into marriage and doomed to a life of sadness afterwards. Esperanza vows that she will not end up like the first Esperanza and so many women do- watching life pass by through the window. To break free from her name connotations, she longs to rename herself "Zeze the X," a choice she finds more reflective of her true self. The character is impressed upon by these forces and they guide her growth as a person. The House on Mango Street is considered a modern classic of Chicano literature and has been the subject of numerous academic publications in Chicano studies and feminist theory. The book has sold more than 6 million copies, has been translated into over 20 languages and is required reading in many schools and universities across the United States.

Instead ofreturning home, however, she goes to the cinema and watches Gentlemen PreferBlondes by herself. Esperanza describes her Aunt Lupe, who was seriously ill and dies on thesame day that the children play a game imitating her, making Esperanza thinkthat she (Esperanza) may be going to hell. She has her fortune told by Elenita, the witch woman, but is disappointed by the vague prediction that she will have“a home in the heart,” when what she wants is a physical home away from MangoStreet. A modern alternative to SparkNotes and CliffsNotes, SuperSummary offers high-quality Study Guides with detailed chapter summaries and analysis of major themes, characters, and more. Identity

Lucy and Rachel, two sisters with whom Esperanzaclubs together to buy a bicycle, are friendlier. She also befriends Marin, anolder, more sophisticated girl from Puerto Rico, who teaches her beauty secretsand talks about boys. Esperanza shares her love of reading and writing poetry with select adults, all of whom are very encouraging. Some even tell her that she is talented and will go far, but they remind her that she must always remember her people and where she comes from. Her mother shares her own regrets about giving up on her education too soon and wasting her talents. Esperanza begins to dream of having a house all to herself; a house surrounded by nature that is quiet enough to focus on writing.

She is in an office which she hasfilled with bookcases, birdcages, wicker baskets, photographs, and numerousother objects which she often buys at a nearby flea market.

The games Esperanza plays with her friends have afluid quality, as they quickly become bored. They might begin by talking aboutthe different words for snow and clouds, and end by calling each other names. As they jump rope, the girls talk about the development of their hips and makeup rhymes on the subject. One day, a woman gives them a bag of old shoes, andthey practice being adults, walking on high heels, but soon grow tired of thisactivity. The novel is made up of a series of vignettes that capture Esperanza'sobservations and experiences, reflecting on themes of identity, gender roles, and the power of words.

As she grows older and witnesses the lives of the women around her,Esperanza becomes increasingly eager to escape from Mango Street. She knowsthat she will not achieve this through marriage; she is not beautiful, and herearly sexual experiences are painful and distressing. The white Cathy, whose house is full of cats, gossips about her neighborsand complains that the street is getting worse because families likeEsperanza’s are moving in.

summary on house on mango street

Sally’sfather is very strict, and Esperanza later discovers that he beats her.Minerva, who is only slightly older than Esperanza but is already married withtwo children, is similarly abused by her husband, who keeps leaving her butalways returns. Esperanza focuses on finding a best friend of her own, as she’s unsatisfied with her little sister, Nenny. She meets two sisters named Rachel and Lucy, and they become fast friends after pooling their money together to buy a bicycle. At a carnival with Sally, Esperanza is forced into losing her virginity to a boy that she wants to escape from.

She refuses to seek out a man to "escape," because she has seen too many neighbors unhappy in marriage. Ruthie, for example, has run away from her husband and has lost her senses; young Rafaela is so beautiful that her husband locks her indoors when he leaves. Her friend, who, like Esperanza only wanted to dream and share love, is first beaten by her father to prevent Sally ruining the family with her "dangerous" beauty. To escape, Sally, though underage, marries a traveling salesman and the cycle of abuse continues. Enraged and saddened by her friend's tragedy, Esperanza vows to leave Mango street, become a writer, and build her dream home.

Esperanza eventually enters puberty and changes sexually, physically, and emotionally, beginning to notice and enjoy male attention. She befriends Sally, an attractive girl who wears heavy makeup and provocative clothing, and who is physically abused and forbidden from leaving her home by her strongly religious father. Sally's and Esperanza's friendship is compromised when Sally ditches Esperanza for a boy at a carnival, leaving Esperanza to be sexually assaulted by a group of men. She recounts other instances of assault she has faced, like an older man forcibly kissing her at her first job. Esperanza's traumatic experiences and observations of the women in her neighborhood, many of whom are controlled by the men in their lives, only further cement her desire to leave Mango Street.

Dynamic duo Holden Sasser and Chase Young serve a mean, best-in-class brisket with a charred crust that turns into a tender, layered, smokey bite, paired best with sour pickles. The lime zest on the pork spare ribs is a quiet hero, and the beef cheek barbacoa sandwich, deluged in rajas con crema and a touch of cilantro, is sloppy in all of the right ways. Like a proud curtain call, the Big Deborah, a fresh-baked and double-the-size take on a Little Debbie’s oatmeal cream pie, nostalgically closes out the meal. Tracking down the smoked meat served in to-go pizza boxes at Union Barbecue is worth the effort — like an oh-so-satisfying game of hard-to-get.

When dining out be sure to tip and practice patience as everyone is still trying to figure out this neverending pandemic and overall weirdness. The entire South is obviously obsessed with meat and animal products, so Sanctuary Bistro, with a rotating all-vegan, gluten-free, and organic menu, is a really welcome addition to the restaurant scene. This is a place where stuff like soy, tofu, and mushrooms mimic the textures, richness, and meatiness of meat and cheese. In other words, you won’t have to sell dishes like jackfruit bourguignon or crispy tofu au poivre too hard to your cousin who only eats chicken tenders.

But the thrill of shuffling downstairs to your kitchen to forage for lunch has definitely worn off. The best spot to sit at this wine bar is by the koi pond on the walled patio that makes us feel like we’re in The Secret Garden, minus the pale Victorian child. Let the staff help you through the extensive wine list, which has the best selection of Croatian bottles in the city, while you share a build-your-own cheese or charcuterie board.

El Puro Cuban Restaurant

Their menu is diverse, offering everything from Crab Rangoon Dip and Tuna & Avocado-Tini for appetizers to a variety of sushi rolls and burgers. For sushi lovers, there’s an array of choices like the Flamin’ Salmon Roll and Dion’s OMG! Lorem Ipsum is, in a way, a hotel bar, but it’s cooler with Justin Hazelton at the helm, cozier with moody candlelight, and with much, much better music. That’s the main part of this bar’s identity — listening to rotating music offerings over the specialized sound design system, with paired visuals projected onto the wall. Alongside a small, specialty wine and beer list for sipping, there’s a classy Earl Grey take on an Old Fashioned, a banana-infused rum cocktail, and a salted, citrusy tequila drink, just to name a few. Bernardin’s is a fine dining restaurant in Uptown Charlotte that is sure to exceed expectations!

Come for dinner and definitely get a vegetable-focused small plate or two before moving to a seafood or pasta main. If the menu has a pasta dish with seafood, and it usually does, you legally have to order it (or we’ll appear out of nowhere and attempt to make a citizen’s arrest). The restaurant stays true to the organic theme, with fresh flowers on the wood tables, stoneware dishes, and a general, upscale granola energy.

At The Fig Tree Restaurant, you’ll find more than just exceptional cuisine; you’ll step into a piece of Charlotte’s history. Located in the Elizabeth neighborhood, this restaurant is housed in the Lucas House, a pre-WWI Craftsman-style bungalow. The house, built in 1913, is a historic gem and inspired the restaurant’s name with its four Brown Turkey fig trees on the grounds. The ambiance of this century-old house perfectly complements the restaurant’s classic approach to dining. As one of the unique restaurants in Charlotte, RH Rooftop Restaurant goes beyond just serving food. It’s an experience that combines fine dining with stunning interior design.

As one of the fun restaurants in Charlotte, Dining in the Dark offers a memorable experience. It’s perfect for adventurous diners and those looking to try something new. The combination of mystery, delicious food, and sensory exploration makes Dining in the Dark a must-visit destination.

Enjoy dishes like chicken piccata, grilled filet in a red wine sauce, and duck confit spring rolls. You only need to be willing to try out something new to experience the richness in this city. These BBQ spots offer you a taste of Charlotte’s finest smoked meat mastery and artistry infused with years of training and traditions. Fast-casual and family-friendly, this Neopolitan pizzeria now has two locations — one in Dilworth and one in South Charlotte.

The menu at lunch and dinner still has more than 130 items, and Nguyen still uncannily remembers what customers like when they come back. Not much has changed at this South Boulevard steakhouse since it opened in 1958, and that's a good thing. From the dark, wood-paneled walls to the main event—perfectly juicy and tender steaks—Beef 'N Bottle delivers old-world style and service. Each cut of beef, from the six-ounce filet mignon to 16-ounce center-cut sirloin, can be augmented with three ounces of King Crab meat and comes with a house salad and choice of side. The menu also includes a decadent Fettuccine Alfredo and several seafood options ranging from fried oysters and crab cakes to salmon platters. Housed in a two-story brick building that once served as a pharmacy, this award-winning restaurant in the small college town of Davidson is worth the half-hour detour.

cool places to eat in charlotte

Yes, there are classic tacos, but there are short ribs in green tomatillo broth, tamarind-glazed fish, and mole, too. There’s a walk-up window for those in a hurry and a little outdoor seating, but there’s usually no trouble finding a seat inside the Good Wurst. You can’t go wrong with a menu that stretches from bagels to Reubens to a deep pocket of “wursts” — dogs and brats. Currywurst frites have a following, but for the money, Reuben fries with crunchy pastrami bits are too good to be missed.

We like it for a casual lunch when we want something more filling than a salad (and with substantially less lettuce). Head on up to the counter and order the currywurst frites with a fried egg to share and a really great reuben, which comes with homemade sweet-and-spicy pickles on the side. If you’re looking for the BEST empanadas in Charlotte, Sabor Latin Street Grill is the place to be. This Latin American restaurant is a perfect casual restaurant to check out if you’re looking for something quick and tasty in NoDa. Besides their popular empanadas, they have great tacos, taco salads, quesadillas, and so much more.
